NNA-Sponsored Spring Egg Hunt - THIS SATURDAY!

Spring has again arrived at Northrich, and we are ready to greet it with our annual Spring Egg Hunt. The hunt will be open to all Northrich residents (free of charge) this Saturday, April 3, at 3p on the Northrich Elementary playground. Baskets will not be provided, so please be sure to bring a container from home for your child to fill with all their findings. Plus, rumor has it that Freckles The Bunny will be hopping into action again this year, so bring your camera to capture all of the fun for yourself. Last year's egg hunt was a huge success, and we expect this year's hunt to be even bigger! We look forward to seeing all of you come out in support of the Spring season!

Where We Stand As An Association: a letter from the NNA president

As the NNA officers read through the comments to our last post on the May 8 bond election, we realized that many of our readers interpreted our statements as some sort of political stand.  The job of the association is to make residents aware of civic affairs, as well as how specific elections/referendums could possibly affect the neighborhood.  To be clear: We are not pushing an agenda.  We are not telling anyone how to vote or what to think.  We are simply disseminating information for public discourse, and based on the number of responses we've received, I would say that we've been successful in that endeavor.

From the beginning of this association, one of the primary goals of our bylaws has been to enhance the appearance of our neighborhood and common areas.  Another of our primary goals this year was to build more awareness of public issues.  By drawing attention to the upcoming bond election, we are working to satisfy both of those goals.  If you think that the propositions are worth your tax dollars, then vote for them.  If not, then vote against them.  In fact, you can vote FOR some propositions and AGAINST others, as the 4 propositions will be separated for voting purposes.  Again, we're not asking you to vote one way or another, but we are asking you to do your own homework and vote.  Your vote is your voice.  Others may try to discount that statement, but inaction rarely receives desired results.

Your comments are exactly what we as a board are working to promote.  Don't stop by hitting the "send" button on your PC; take action, talk to your neighbors and get involved.  I invite all contributors to this debate to attend our next meeting on Thursday, May 20 at 7p at Northrich Elementary School.  Sure, the bond election will be over by then, but I am sure we'll find other issues that will be of interest to you all.

Thanks,
Zach Vaughn
NNA President

May 8 bond election may greatly impact Northrich

The Richardson City Council recently voted to hold a bond election on May 8, 2010.  The bond program proposed by the City contains $66 million of improvements across Richardson for street construction, parks and recreation facilities, municipal public buildings, and neighborhood vitality projects.

If approved, the bond program would have a great impact on our neighborhood.  Specifically, this bond program would result in the following happening in Northrich:
  • A neighborhood park,
  • Several street reconstructions,
  • Several alley reconstructions, and
  • Improvements to many of the sidewalks in the portion of our neighborhood east of Custer.
As you can see, this bond program would have a great impact on the quality and vitality of the Northrich neighborhood and we urge everyone in our neighborhood to get out and vote on May 8!  More information can be found here (including a map of proposed improvements):  City of Richardson 2010 Bon Election Details
